Open Positions

The Department of Chemistry at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville invites applications for three tenure-track faculty positions.


The first of these positions will be at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Materials Chemistry with a focus on synthesis and characterization of polymeric, inorganic, or hybrid materials. The other two positions are open to applicants from any area of chemistry, with preference being given to candidates whose research interests are synergistic with existing departmental efforts. One open position will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, and the other at the rank of Associate or Assistant Professor. All positions have an anticipated start date of August 1, 2019. Appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor requires a Ph.D. degree in chemistry or a closely related field; at least one year of post-doctoral research experience is preferred. Appointment at the rank of Associate Professor requires prior academic accomplishments commensurate with the expectations for rank as outlined in our bylaws. Successful candidates are expected to develop/continue a nationally recognized, externally funded research program while also contributing to the department’s missions of service and teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate level. Candidates who have the ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the diversity and intercultural goals of the University are especially encouraged to apply.

Faculty in our department have the opportunity to collaborate with researchers and benefit from unique facilities both on campus and at nearby Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). These include the Joint Institute for Advanced Materials, Spallation Neutron Source, Center for Nanophase Materials Sciences, and other UT-ORNL Joint Institutes.
