The Biological and Small Molecule Mass Spectrometry Core (BSMMSC) houses eight mass spectrometers and multiple computer workstations for data analysis. The core provides project consultations as well as analytical services from sample preparation to data interpretation. Current instrumentation capacity includes electrospray ionization, matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization, compound quantitation using the triple quadrupole, and high-resolution structural elucidation by quadrupole-Orbitrap. Our high-resolution Orbitrap mass spectrometers are capable of both liquid and gas chromatographic separations for complex sample analysis, including metabolomics and lipidomics. The BSMMSC serves researchers from many departments across the UT campus and multiple institutions across the country.
