Welcome!

Welcome to the Department of Chemistry’s web page. We hope you will find it useful in learning about our students, faculty, and staff as well as undergraduate and graduate programs offered by the Department. The University of Tennessee in Knoxville is the flagship educational institution in the State of Tennessee, and the Department of Chemistry is its oldest PhD granting Department. The Department currently has about thirty research-active professors representing all the traditional sub-disciplines in chemistry (Analytical, Inorganic, Organic, and Physical). Our Department is also known for strong interdisciplinary research in polymer chemistry, materials chemistry, chemical physics, bio-organic chemistry, and neutron science. We encourage you to use various links on our home page to find more about the unique research opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students available in our Department. The Department is also happy to have solid collaborative research connections with the research community at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). Please take a moment to look at some of the ongoing projects between professors in the Department and researchers at ORNL.

We hope that our web site will provide you with all the needed information about the Department. If not, please contact us by email (chemistry@utk.edu), and we will be happy to answer any questions you have. We will get back to you in short order with the information that you request.

If you’re planning to visit Knoxville soon and curious about our graduate program, please send us an email. We’ll arrange your visit to the Department, including a Departmental tour and meetings with the faculty whose research programs interests you.

Good luck, and I hope to see you at UT soon.
